How do I get a job with a sheet music publisher?

Specifically, I want to be the person making the sheet music. I have extensive experience with Sibelius and Finale, and all the classical music training, as well as plenty of knowledge of music writing for all the types of instruments. Classical for strings, wind, brass, and percussion. And pop music, lyrics, chord charts for guitar, tab, anything. I live in Los Angeles. I want a job putting these talents to use, making quality sheet music for a publishing company. Where do I start, and once I've started, where do I go from there?

1. You'd have to find out the names of the music publishing companies, then visit their Web sites or call or write and see if they're hiring. Once you've started, where you can go from there will probably become apparent. The secret is to get your foot in the door.
